hi guys.

I'm new to AJAX so I might not get the terms right. Please bare with me.

I have a Google Map which on move (drag) calls a particular AJAX function. It uses Google's GXmlHttp to get the xmlhttp object.

It works great in Firefox, but in IE, I do not get responseXML, but I do have responseText. I tried parsing responseText direectly, but this doesn't seem to work either.

Here's some code.

Code:

 // send the request to the server
  var request = GXmlHttp.create();

  request.onreadystatechange = change_function

  request.open("GET", urlstr, true);
  request.send(null);

//...
function change_function() {
if (request.readyState == 4) {
      if (request.status == 200) {
// parse responseText into XML if not already done so
      request.responseXML.loadXML(request.responseText)
      var xmlDoc = request.responseXML;
        if (xmlDoc.documentElement) {
          // update the map

        } else {
         // .. error message
        }
      } else {
        // .. error message
      }

    }

}

I thought adding request.responseXML.loadXML(request.responseText) would solve it, but alas, no luck.

I'm really stuck and would appreciate any help at all.

I have double checked that every reponse is in text/xml format. I did this by wget-ing the urlstr variable.

What's the GXmlHttp code (or can we find out)? Also, what version of Internet Explorer are you using? It seems odd that IE should have a problem with an XmlHttpRequest, because Microsoft invented it.
