Ajax as it is right now is a huge Hype! Many people play around with it, make every application "Web2.0-Like" using Ajax, Ahaa, Tags, ecc.
The future will show us what Ajax really can do and if it's usefull.
For now I'll say that only a few applications make intelligent use of the potential: namely GMail, Google Calendar, RememberTheMilk and very few others.
People have to understand that by using these technologies they won't automatically make a good application, the technologies are to be choosen according to the requirements!

Hi Snyke,

Wize words from you. Ajax is a buzzword just like web 2.0. The strength of the word is that it is refering to a group of technologies in stead of just one technology.

This might be a reason for this buzzword to survive.

Interesting applications are being developed using ajax, the potential is huge.

Last time i came across an interesting one that pushed live financial data (stock) to a webbrowser !

live demo here;

I believe AJAX is more than hype... sure, alot of big companies have failed in the past - but how is it just hype if it's proven to be more than hype by major players (Google, Yahoo, etc)? Sure, there will be plenty of downfalls in the end - but this is why there needs to be more sites like this out there. The more we learn, the more we fail. The more we fail, the more we learn. It's all a cycle - but in the end - I believe AJAX will be much more positive than Flash - along with alot more capabilities. Cool

What most people don't understand is that Ajax is a Tool and not a solution. We can solve problems by using such tools as Ajax, but Ajax applications aren't automatically good applications, in fact some Ajax applications are worse than plain HTML...
